Tile Decoration

Our door signs are decorated using a mixed technique of silkscreen (the black outlines) and hand-painting, while the calligraphic inscription is completely hand made (see videoclips).

Sign Sizes

Our ceramic signs come in 4 different sizes:

Largest
Size unframed: 8"x6" (20x15cm)
Size framed: 9.5"x7.5" (23x18cm)

Large
Size unframed: 6"x4" (15x10cm)
Size framed: 7.5"x5.5" (18x14cm)

Medium
Size: 6"x3" (15x7.5cm)

Small
Size: 6"x2" (15x5cm)

Largest size signs come always framed by default, while Large size signs can be ordered with or without frame. No frame available for Medium and Small sizes.

Wood Frame

The frames we use are made of solid unvarnished wood and they carry a hook which allows to hang the nameplate on the wall in case you will not use the holes.

Largest size nameplates come always framed by default, while for the Large size the frame is optional.

Wording Suggestions

Need help to find out the right text to put on your sign? Follow some inscription possibilities. Of course you can combine on the nameplate Hebrew with English words:

English

  • The Miller Family
  • The Millers (plural form)
  • The Miller's (possessive case)
  • Mike & Mary Miller
  • Shalom (in English or Hebrew) + any of the above forms
  • Welcome (or the Hebrew Bruchim Habaim) + any of the above forms

Hebrew

  • Mishp' Miller or Mishpachat Miller
  • Michael u-Miriam Miller (The Hebrew Names of Mike and Mary)
  • Mike u-Mary Miller (The phonetic transliteration in Hebrew of the English names Mike and Mary)

Script Types

Our personalized ceramic signs are inscribed in English, Hebrew, or any other language on demand, like Russian, Arabic, etc.

The available script types for hand inscription on your signs are:

Latin Italic script
Sfaradi Hebrew Sfaradi
Yerushalmi Hebrew Yerushalmi
Rolit Hebrew Rolit
Rachel Hebrew Rachel
Ashkenazi Hebrew Ashkenazi
Ktav Yad Hebrew Hand writing

During the sign order process, after the English and the Hebrew text boxes, you will find a "Special requests" box where you can specify your script type (font) preference.

Tile Care

Our tiles' acrylic lacquer coating renders tile surface completely weatherproof and washable.

A tile can be cleaned with a soft wet cloth or washed with water and soap. Do not use abrasives, spirit, alcohol or acetone. To maintain a glossy finish, avoid surface contact with scratching materials or tools.

In chilling weather areas, tiles should be mounted in a rain protected spot or varnished in their porous back's surface as they may crack if wet and then chilled.

Door Mounting

Each sign carries two standard holes (nearly invisible) and is supplied with screws, washers and clear instructions for proper door mounting.
In the Shopping Cart (Special Requests box) you can expressly ask for "no holes" but remember that holes will be always a valid option for any future use of your nameplate.

The following instructions and appropriate screws (and washers when needed) are supplied along with every ceramic sign.
For this operation, use screws (and washers) supplied in the package.
Certain sign sizes or types do not need washers behind the tile (see instructions in your package).

How to attach a ceramic sign on a door

  1. Position the tile in place on the door
  2. Using a pencil, make two marks on the door through the holes of the tile, then remove it.
  3. For a wooden door: insert a small screw into the door at each pencil mark, tap it lightly with a hammer, screw it half way down, then unscrew it.
  4. For a metal door: drill a small hole into the pencil mark using a 1/8" High Speed (HS) steel bit.
  5. Put the tile back in place on the door and screw the screws into the holes, through the tile and the metal washers (see illustration above).

CAUTION: avoid over tightening the screws, as the tile may break!

Gluing, or using a double stick tape, is not suggested by Small Signs, as the glue may weaken during the time and the tile fall down at a door-slap. Besides, glue may damage a door surface more than two little clean holes
