Tile care
Our tiles' lacquer coating renders the surface completely weatherproof and washable.
A tile can be cleaned with a soft wet cloth or washed with water
and soap. Do not use abrasives, spirit, alcohol or acetone. To
maintain a smooth finish, avoid surface contact with scratching
materials or tools.
In chilling weather areas, tiles should be mounted in a rain protected
spot or varnished in their porous back's surface as they may crack if wet and then chilled.
Door sign mounting
All ceramic and Metal Name Plaques from our workshop can be attached to a door using screws or glue, except the Overglaze outdoor signs which can only be glued using silicone, plaster, epoxy or contact glue (if not exposed to sun and rain).
When you order a sign, in the shopping cart you are presented with the option to have two holes drilled on the tile's sides (almost invisible).
If you decided for holes, the tile will be supplied with screws and clear instructions for proper door mounting.
In any case, we do not take any responsibility on safety issues and/or tile mounting results.
The following instructions, together with appropriate screws fitting both wood and metal doors, are supplied along with every ceramic sign:
To mount your nameplate on a door:
- Position the tile in place on the door
- Using a pencil, make two marks on the door through the holes of the tile,
then remove it.
- If it's a wooden door: insert a small screw into the door at each pencil mark,
tap it lightly with a hammer, screw it half way down, then unscrew it.
- If it's a metal door: drill a small hole into the pencil mark using a 1/8" High
Speed (HS) steel bit.
- Put the tile back in place on the door and screw the screws into the holes,
through the tile.
CAUTION: avoid over tightening the screws, as the tile may break!
In case you prefer to stick your tile to the door, we suggest to
use a good quality mounting tape, like the double-coated Scotch® Mounting Tape, for example. Contact glue can also be used, always following the instructions and avoiding to get the tile dirty.
