Benefits of Satin over suede (leather) kippot:

1. Environmentally Friendly – According to the United Nations, animal agriculture is responsible for well over 51% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Raising animals for commercial purposes commercially is one of the largest sources of carbon dioxide and the single largest source of both methane and nitrous-oxide emissions (PETA). In addition to the impact of accelerated growth hormones, the leather manufacturing process also negatively affects the workers and the environment. Carcinogenic chromium compounds, arsenic and mercury are among the elements present in leather manufacturing, and have been linked to various forms of cancer, leukemia, and birth defects.
2. Odor-Free – Unlike Suede kippot, Satin kippot do not have a distinct odor.
3. Humanity – Judaism teaches tikkun olam; repairing the world. This ideology has become synonymous with social justice and showing compassion for all living things. Vegetarianism and veganism are ways by which we can all practice tikkun olam.
4. Yom Kippur – According to the Jewish law, only garments of non-animal origin can be worn on Yom Kippur and on Tisha b’Av. Therefore you would,not be able to wear your suede kippah to shul on these Holy Days.
5. Education – Teaching compassion, taking responsibility for the environment. Recently, the common use of furs and animal skin has fallen out of fashion—thanks to the courageous few who had the chutzpah to take a stand. You too, can be among the number who make the change today.
6. Status – At one time, leather garments were indicative of wealth. Today, the wearing of animal fur and leather is indicative of a selfishness, irresponsibility and apathy.
7. Affordability – Satin kippot are a more budget-friendly choice than Suede. Here is an opportunity to save money, as well as doing your part to save the environment by opting for satin kippot.

Suede kippot come in standard size of 16 cm, which is the basic size because most of our customers want kippot that are suitable for almost all ages and heads, but they can also be ordered larger than usual (17 cm) or smaller (14 cm).
